The Laboratory of Environmental Fuels/Biofuels and Hydrocarbons (LEFH) is a catalytic reaction engineering laboratory that carries out fundamental and applied research in the area of refining and bio-refining catalytic technologies. Emphasis is given on the development of catalytic processes for the production of fuels and chemicals with low carbon footprint according to the principles of circular economy (low-carbon conventional fuels, renewable and bio-based fuels, renewable chemicals from biomass and waste streams etc .).
LEFH’s research focuses on:
Moreover, LEFH offers advanced technical services to the petroleum-based and bio-based industries and catalyst manufacturing companies.
The main scientific directions of LEFH are:
Synergistic Advanced Carbon Capture Technologies for ConvERsion of Industrially Emitted CO2 to sustainable Production of biofuels and chEmicals
Plastic waste Valorization towards Marine Fuels
Advanced alternative ground and air transport fuels from residual lipids
Sustainable On-site and Innovative Technologies for Advanced Transport BioFuels from MιcroalGae
Biogenic CO2 capture into Sustainable Energy Carriers: A novel photosynthetic and hydrogenotrophic CO2 fixation combined with waste nutrient upcycling for production of carbon negative energy carriers
Advanced Bio-based Refinery Intermediates
