On Thursday, the 28th of September 2023, Dr. Panagiotis Grammelis, Director of Research in the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), was awarded “for his outstanding contribution to scientific research especially in Greek Coal Regions in Transition” in the 8th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium, entitled “Rethinking Energy: A secure and sustainable future”, which took place at the French Institute in Athens. Ms Laurence Auer, the French Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, gave this award, mentioning the importance of the energy transformation for the Mediterranean area and Europe as a whole and stressed the importance of common and innovation projects between Greece and France in the renewable sector. Prof. Spiros Papaefthimiou, Chairman of HAEE, shortly presented the activities of Dr. Grammelis and the importance of Coal Regions in Transition for the Energy Sector. Dr. Grammelis emphasized the rapid development of CERTH’s Dpt. in Ptolemaida in collaboration with the University of Western Macedonia and how their research achievements can contribute to the region’s development and new energy applications, facing the challenges of climate change and job creation.
