Use of engineered MINEral-based fine particle dispersions for eco-friendly improvement of agricultural FIELDs

https://www.minefield.gr/

Funding: European Regional Development Fund of the EU & Greek national funds through the Central Macedonia Operational Regional Program (project No.: ΚΜΡ6-0077950)
Start / End Dates: October 2021 / October 2023

MINEFIELD is a national project of K&N EFTHYMIADIS SINGLE MEMBER S.A. in collaboration with Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) and Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) of the Centre for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH). The project aims to develop and assess environmental friendly materials with insect repellent and fungicide properties.

The MINEFIELD raw materials originate from national mineral resources and relevant mine wastes or byproducts, based on Magnesium – i.e. magnesia and olivine – that by definition are bio-degradable, environmentally friendly, plant compatible and in abundance. CPERI intends to fully characterize the candidate materials and tune their structural properties via thermal processes and classification methods. In collaboration with INAB, that will perform advanced PCR-methods, CERTH will gain insight in the plant protection mechanism. The most promising studied materials will be assessed in lab scale (model plants), while the final candidates will be assessed in the field to establish future- / medium- term, development of sustainable agro-protection products.
