Το Εργαστήριο Τεχνολογίας Σωματιδίων και Αερολυμάτων (ΕΤΕΣΑ) ιδρύθηκε το 1996 στο ΙΔΕΠ (πρώην ΙΤΧΗΔ)/ΕΚΕΤΑμε βάση το ότι η επίλυση πολλών θεμάτων στους τομείς του περιβάλλοντος, της υγείας, της ενέργειας, των υλικών και των βιομηχανικών διεργασιών εξαρτάται από την κατανόηση και εκμετάλλευση της επιστήμης και τεχνολογίας των μικρο/νανο-σωματιδίων και των αιωρημάτων τους σε διάφορα ρευστά μέσα.

Αναγνωρίζοντας τις δυνατότητες που προσφέρονται από αυτό το πολυσχιδές, αλλά ταυτόχρονα βασισμένο σε ένα κοινό επιστημονικό υπόβαθρο, σύνολο εφαρμογών, οι στόχοι μας είναι να διεξάγουμε βασική και εφαρμοσμένη έρευνα όπως και να αναπτύσσουμε νέα τεχνολογικά προϊόντα σε αυτές τις στοχευμένες περιοχές, ανταποκρινόμενοι σε καλά διαπιστωμένες ανάγκες της αγοράς στους τομείς των “καθαρών μεταφορών“, της “καθαρής ενέργειας” και των “in-situ τεχνολογιών μέτρησης σε διεργασίες“.

Ερευνητικές Περιοχές

Το Εργαστήριο Τεχνολογίας Σωματιδίων και Αερολυμάτων (ΕΤΕΣΑ) είναι μέρος του Ινστιτούτου Χημικών Διεργασιών και Ενεργειακών Πόρων (ΙΔΕΠ), που αποτελεί ένα από τα Ινστιτούτα του Εθνικού Κέντρου Έρευνας και Τεχνολογικής Ανάπτυξης (ΕΚΕΤΑ).

Η Έρευνα στο ΕΤΕΣΑ είναι οργανωμένη στους ακόλουθους τομείς:

Τεχνολογίες ελέγχου εκπομπών ρύπων από κινητές και σταθερές πηγές
  • Φίλτρα αιθάλης για τον έλεγχο εκπομπών σωματιδίων Diesel
  • Τεχνολογίες ελέγχου εκπομπών αερίων ρύπων (οξείδωση HC – CO , μείωση NOx)
  • Συστήματα φίλτρων και μεμβρανών για τον καθαρισμό θερμών απαερίων
  • Σύνθεση καταλυτικών νανοσωματιδίων με τεχνικές αερολυμάτων / καύσης / υγρής χημείας

Εξοπλισμός

APTL’s research activities in the areas of automotive emission control, clean transport and green mobility and renewable energy technologies, are carried out incomprehensive experimental facilities that are supported by state-of the art laboratory equipment. A list of the available facilities is given below:

In the area of 'Catalyst Synthesis and Coating'

Nanoparticle & nanostructured materials synthesis reactors
Aerosol based synthesis methods are preferentially employed for the synthesis of nanoparticles. These so-called Engineered Nanoparticles (ENP) can have tailored characteristics (size, composition, morphology, surface area, crystallinity, defect structure, pore size, etc) and may further be direct deposited in a single step on various substrates to produce nanoparticle-functionalized bodies. Several aerosol reactor/deposition setups are available for the upon request small and pilot scale production and direct coating/functionalization of different bodies, including full scale structured and monolithic reactors employed in emission control. The synthesis of novel materials related for applications in energy, environment and health are carried out in dedicated, in-house designed and built pilot reactors, featuring aerosol based, wet chemistry, and solid state based synthesis routes at high temperatures. These routes are inherently environmentally friendly, consume less energy and allow the production of materials with higher purity, including metastable phases with controlled defects (e.g. a variety of doped and mixed oxides).

Solar Simulator

The solar simulator facility is a ‘sun-in-a-box’, a lab-scale, highly adjustable device that provides concentrated radiation with a spectrum that closely matches that of the sun.

The solar simulator consists of eleven xenon shortarc lamps, of 66 kW total power, close-coupled to ellipsoidal aluminium mirrors, that are individually controlled and are able to concentrate the produced radiation on a single spot, with the possibility of operating on two separate spots, where high temperatures can be achieved.

This facility, which is unique in Greece and among a handful worldwide, was developed for the study of candidate materials and process conditions related to solar-thermochemical cycles for water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) splitting for solar fuel generation. The solar simulator is able to achieve temperatures higher than 2000oC in a focal spot of ~60mm diameter and concentrations over 4000 suns.

The  solar simulator produces light of similar wavelength and distribution to the solar spectrum and may stand as an “always sunny” test bench,useful in many solar powered applications, allowing experimental tests under a well controlled environment, regardless the weather conditions.
