The Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute (CPERI), a non-profit research and technological development (RTD) organization was founded in 1985 in Thessaloniki, Greece. From 1987 to March 2000, CPERI was a member of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), headquartered in the island of Crete.

In March 2000, CPERI became a founding member of a new research center, the Center for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), established in Thessaloniki and administered by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Ministry of Development. CERTH until today is the sole research center existing in Northern Greece, within the regions of Macedonia and Thrace. The European Commission and GSRT have supported the initial development of CPERI's facilities and infrastructure through several regional structural grants.

CPERI's mission is to conduct high caliber basic and applied research, to develop novel technologies and products and to pursue scientific and technological excellence in selected advanced areas of Chemical Engineering, including Energy, Environment, Materials and Process Technologies, in response to the needs of the Greek and European industrial and productive sector. The development strategy of CPERI has been based on establishing strategic collaborations 'with leading international industrial corporations, developing strong links with Research Centres and Universities within the European Research Area (ERA) and contributing to the training of young scientists and engineers in state-of-the-art technologies. Acting as a catalyst of regional development CPERI is also consistently pursuing strong interactions and collaborations with small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) in Northern Greece.

FIELDS: PROTECTION FROM ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION: The Institute's Laboratory of Inorganic Materials has successfully completed the technology transfer and industrialization activities of research results concerning the development materials for electromagnetic energy adsorption. Though the new laboratory's spin-off Fields the following tile series are today available building materials for electromagnetic protection.
-FerroxTile L for adsorption from low frequency sources usually present in the electricity transmission and distribution network (i.e. high voltage transmission lines, power stations etc.)
-FerroxTile H for adsorption from high frequency sources usually present in the mobile telecommunication network.
-FerroxTile G for specialty applications at extremely high frequencies up to 90 GHz.
-In addition Fields offers an electromagnetic measurement service for electric and magnetic field intensity evaluations upon request at indicated places.
